Our First Paleo Meal

So my husband decided he wanted to try Paleo. I'm going to be honest, I was not excited about it (at all). While I wasn't willing to try the whole Paleo lifestyle for a whole month, I did agree to do one or two meals per week to try it out.

We had our first Paleo meal last week and made a Shepherd's Pie. It was actually really good. Instead of mashed potatoes, the topping was butternut squash. The filling was ground turkey, mixed vegetables, mushrooms, and onions. It was really good.



Has anyone tried the Paleo lifestyle, whether full-time or just for a few meals? What do you think of it? I think the whole giving up dairy and wheat is really difficult, so I'd like to hear from you... if you haven't tried it, would you?

  3. Hi Laura, I'm new to your lovely blog, really enjoying reading your posts :) Yes, I have tried paleo and YES it's hard! I did it for a few months last year and followed the 80-20 rule, 80% paleo meals per week 20% whatever. Still, I found it hard to sustain and fell off the wagon although I'm considering giving it another go soon! I did feel better for it, less bloated, more healthy generally but giving up creature comforts like breakfast cereals and having eggs every morning instead was the hardest thing for me!

    1. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's found it difficult. Truthfully, Paleo wasn't my idea... it's really my husband's thing and I'm just along for the ride since I don't want to have us preparing two separate meals all the time. I think I've ended up eating more Paleo than I expected, but I still eat dairy, which is the hardest thing for me to give up. Basically, we may have a paleo dinner but I'll still have a glass of milk. And I'll still take yogurt as a snack during the day. Luckily, my husband just wanted to try for a month, so that month is almost up and I'm hoping we're almost done! Good luck if you decide to do it again!

    I have only ever eaten paleo meals twice, but they were delicious!
    1) taco salad (ground turkey with seasoning) on a bed of lettuce with avocado and tomatoes
    2)zuccini lasagna. I don't even like zuccini! (or so I thought) but this was delicious!
